Contractor Orientations Checklist

01 September 2015

What you need to know to on-board contractors easily

Here at GoContractor, we have learned a lot from our customers about contractor orientations checklists and must-haves. One of the biggest things we have learned is what they expect from us when conducting their perfect contractor orientations. We have a platform that offers a whole new approach to orientating your contractors and significantly reduces your cost, improves productivity, reduces paperwork and enhances productivity. That’s something to be proud of. So, we got thinking, if you are doing contractor orientations what are the most important things to keep in mind? These recommendations are based on our experience working with the world’s largest companies. Let’s take a look.

Speak their language – fast delivery and mobile accessibility

Our customers are busy people and so are their contractor hires, so it is in everyone’s best interest to deliver orientations efficiently. What we hear back time and again is that these contractors want to have their training delivered online to save them the time wasted in classroom orientations. Oftentimes contractors arrive in large project hires and in multiple locations, which is where we come in. Our platform ensures that you can train and register your contractors anywhere, and at anytime. This type of delivery speeds up the process significantly and reduces resources of time and money.

How do we increase speed of delivery you may ask? Online. We are always on and always accessible to your contractors. They have access to our platform on computers, laptops, smartphones and ipads, which is the way information is consumed nowadays. Furthermore, it speaks their language – it literally speaks the training to them in their language! Best of all you can use a variety of media to communicate including text, graphics and video to aid comprehension and retention.

Flexibility

Flexibility to respond to changing conditions is another big thing for our customers. In this business things change on an hourly basis, contractor firms have to adapt to new legislation, changes to their company policy coming from management, new projects and even incidents on site. It simply isn’t possible to keep pace with this through classroom training and notice boards. As a result companies are coming to rely on mobile delivery of refresher training and bulletin training. This is why we offer companies the flexibility to conduct training at any time, anywhere. What we have found, is that the hunger to orientate workers before they start on site is real. Many of our existing customers have conducted their orientations before contractors have come on site, including DP World, Rothschild, Gilbane and Smyths. Smyths Toys, being one of the leading toy retailers in Europe means they orientate a lot of new workers during the holiday season. So, they decided to use our platform in order to increase their training flexibility. Our platform allows that to happen before their workers even set foot inside the store.

Compliance

Finally, compliance. Our customers have to ensure that they are completely covered, and ensure that they are inline with current legislation and best practice. Our platform offers them a way to ensure contractors are fully trained based on the relevant legislation.. This is a good option if you want to ensure your staff are trained regularly and are up to speed on all legislation and rules within your company. One of our customers tell us that they view all their training materials as if a serious accident had already happened to the trainee. Would they then feel that they had covered everything to ensure that person’s safety? Compliance can often feel like a box ticking exercise until an incident does happen so take the time now to put all the right elements into your orientation materials.

These are just a few things that we have learned along they way, of course if you would like to learn more about how we can help you directly do get in touch and we can give you further insights from the world of contractor orientations and training.
