Safety With Electricity

20 July 2016

Know the Risks

Many safety hazards where electricity is involved can result in serious injury or death to electrical workers. Work environments with electrical safety hazards put everyone, including owners, at risk. Engineers, electricians, and other workers deal with electricity directly, including working on overhead lines, electrical installation and circuit assemblies.

You can take safety precautions when working with or near electricity and electrical equipment to significantly reduce the risk of injury to you, your workers and others around you. Many injuries occur due to lack of safety knowledge on both the workers and managers behalf. The first key to electrical safety is to understand and follow safety regulations and standards.

What to do in the event of an electrical incident?

During an emergency response, the following are recommended:

• Follow your company’s emergency response procedure

• Do not touch the person with your hands if they are still in contact with the source of electricity

• Turn off the electrical current at the source if it is safe to do so
